Appointed Time to Die (Ecclesiastes 3:2; Romans 5:12; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Hebrews 9:27)
While God’s capacity to answer prayers is not constrained by one’s age, healing was never meant solely to extend life without regard for spiritual dimensions. The Bible clearly states: “There is a time to die” (Ecclesiastes 3:2; Hebrews 9:27). God has decreed it, and apart from His return, every person will meet this appointment.
Modern society struggles to accept its own mortality, yet the mortality rate for every generation is inevitably 100 percent. Even those healed by Jesus eventually faced death. Many Christians seem to harbor the belief that there should be no limits to their lifespan. However, like all humanity, Christians are subject to the consequences of the Fall. If this were not God’s design, every believer who ever lived would still be alive today. When it is someone’s appointed time to die, we should be prepared to entrust them to God’s care. For Christians, physical death is the gateway to ultimate healing. As stated in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

As the author, I want to clarify what I mean by “healing was never meant solely to extend life without regard for spiritual dimensions.” In writing this, my point is that while God’s power to heal can restore physical health, its purpose goes far beyond just adding years to our earthly lives. Scripture, like Ecclesiastes 3:2 and Hebrews 9:27, reminds us that death is a God-ordained reality for all of us, a result of the Fall (Romans 5:12). Healing, then, isn’t about escaping mortality but about serving God’s greater plan—whether that’s strengthening faith, revealing His glory, or preparing us for eternity. For believers, as I reference in 2 Corinthians 5:8, the ultimate healing comes when we leave our physical bodies to be with the Lord, fulfilling the spiritual purpose of our existence.
