On Memorial Day, I reflect on a 1940 Fort Sill photograph of my great-grandfather, William Elvin Penn, and his battalion, including a Japanese American soldier. Taken before WWII’s turmoil, it captures unity and sacrifice. Many didn’t return from the Pacific, reminding us life is fleeting (James 4:14). Like Christ, who laid down His life (John 15:13), these soldiers inspire us to live boldly and accept salvation urgently. Honor their legacy by embracing Christ’s love today.
