Be Different: Renewing the Mind to Live for Christ

The Promise of the Mind of Christ

As followers of Jesus, we are called to live differently from the world around us—joyfully, boldly, and rooted in the strength that comes from the Lord. The foundation for this transformed life is found in a profound biblical truth: we have the mind of Christ.

In 1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV), the Apostle Paul writes:

“For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.”

Paul quotes Isaiah 40:13 to emphasize that no human can fully comprehend God’s thoughts on their own. Yet, through the Holy Spirit, believers receive access to Christ’s own perspective—His divine wisdom, understanding, and way of seeing life. This is not just a nice idea; it is a reality for every true child of God, and it fuels the joy that becomes our strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

How God Reveals His Truth (1 Corinthians 2:10–3:4)

God does not leave us to figure things out with human wisdom alone. As Paul explains in 1 Corinthians 2:10–11, the Spirit searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. Just as only a person’s own spirit knows their inner thoughts, only God’s Spirit fully knows His mind—and He has chosen to make Himself known through Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit communicates spiritual truths to spiritual people (1 Corinthians 2:13). The Bible itself is the result of the Spirit putting spiritual realities into chosen words.

Paul classifies people into three spiritual categories based on their spiritual state and maturity, showing how they receive God’s truth, especially the message of the Cross:

  • The Natural Person (2:14): This is someone who has not been born again and lacks the Holy Spirit. Spiritual things seem foolish to them—they cannot understand or accept the Gospel.
  • The Spiritual Person: This is a believer who is growing in maturity. Their life is marked by freedom from jealousy, quarreling, and divisions. Their renewed nature responds to God’s truth with joy and obedience.
  • The Carnal (Fleshly) Person (3:1–4): This is a true believer who remains immature, living more like the world than like Christ. Signs include envy, strife, and a divisive spirit. Such immaturity shows a focus on human opinions rather than full devotion to Christ.

Have you ever wondered why so many believers—even those who hear sermons week after week—experience little true change? There is no revival stirring in their hearts, no growing hunger for God’s Word, no recognizable spiritual maturity, and no increasing commitment to making disciples.

You don’t see the evidence of God’s Word doing what Scripture promises it will do.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) declares: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Why is this missing? It cannot be a problem with God’s Word itself—it is alive, active, and transformative. The issue often lies with how we receive the truth, just as Paul describes these three categories.

At En-Joy Ministries, we see this contrast addressed head-on through our commitment to biblical discipleship, sound teaching, and practical outreach. Too often, the lack of transformation stems from shallow engagement rather than deep, joyful obedience to Scripture. It shows up when prayer, Bible study, and community fade—not because of “low interest,” but because we’ve drifted from cultivating the joy of the Lord that sustains real growth. Friends, these things ought not to be so. Through our online teachings, weekly Bible studies, workshops like Commitment Training for Spiritual Growth and Servant Leadership, and outreaches such as Greenwalt Farms and Cooking for Christ, we aim to help believers move from immaturity to maturity—renewed in mind and strong in joy.

The Call to Transformation (Romans 12:1–2)

The path forward is clear: stop conforming to the world’s patterns and allow God to transform you by renewing your mind.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) states: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The word “conformed” refers to adopting the style of this age—a godless system under the devil’s influence (see 2 Corinthians 4:4).

Instead, we are to be “transformed” (a change from the inside out) through mind renewal. This renewal restores our thinking toward God’s original design—touching intellect, emotions, will, and mindset. Renewed thoughts shape purposes, actions become habits, habits build character, and character directs our future—all fueled by the joy of the Lord.

This transformation begins with offering ourselves fully to God:

Romans 12:1 (NKJV): “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Our whole being—spirit, soul, and body—belongs to God, purchased by Christ’s blood (1 Thessalonians 5:23). We present our lives daily as living sacrifices. This includes our minds, time, resources, praises, and energy poured into others—whether through discipleship, serving in community outreaches, or simply living out faith in action.

Living Out God’s Will—God’s will is not hidden. It is revealed plainly in Scripture:

1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NKJV): “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Micah 6:8 (NKJV) provides a timeless summary: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”

These commands intertwine: act righteously and justly, show compassionate kindness rooted in faithfulness, and walk in humble dependence on God—all with joy as our strength.

God’s Word guides us every step: “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105, NKJV). It illuminates immediate decisions and provides direction for the journey of faith.

Why This Matters: Drawing Others to Jesus

Renewing our minds to think Christ’s thoughts is a victorious reality for those born of God through faith in Jesus (1 John 5:1). It equips us to:

  • Humble ourselves before God and others.
  • Discern truth clearly without compromise.
  • Speak truth in love.
  • Serve others selflessly—pouring time, resources, and life into making disciples who make disciples (Matthew 28:19–20).

This requires saying no to distractions so we can invest in people—reflecting values like courage, credibility, trust, a positive attitude, ownership, hard work, helping others, clear communication, respect, and finding favor—all grounded in love and fueled by joy.

At En-Joy Ministries, this is our heartbeat: cultivating joy to grow faith, equipping mature believers through teaching, outreach, and discipleship resources, and living transformed lives that honor God, expand His influence, and draw people to the Messiah, Jesus. This is what it means to be different in a confusing world—joyful, strong, and fully devoted.
