At En-Joy Ministries, we believe that worship and praise are more than just songs or expressions of emotion—they are the purest forms of faith and trust in God. They represent the highest expression of prayer, inviting God’s presence and power into our lives in profound ways. Central to this truth is a powerful verse from the Psalms that has shaped our understanding of worship for generations.
Psalm 22:3 declares: “Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.” (ESV)
This verse reveals a remarkable kingdom principle: God is not distant or detached—He chooses to dwell, to be enthroned, right in the midst of His people’s praises. When we exalt His name through heartfelt worship, we create a place for His manifest presence and kingdom power to invade our circumstances. Praise prepares the way for God to “come” and for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
As the early church used the Psalms as their hymnal, this truth remains fully applicable for New Testament believers today. Wherever God’s people lift their voices in praise, He is ready to respond—whether through healing, miracles, prophetic words, conviction, salvation, or a deep sense of awe and peace. We don’t manipulate God; rather, we align ourselves with His promise by welcoming Him into our world, our situations, and our gatherings.
Biblical Examples of Praise Releasing God’s Power
Scripture is filled with stories that illustrate this dynamic:
- In 2 Chronicles 5:11-14, when the priests and Levites united in one accord—praying, singing, praising, and thanking God—the glory of the Lord filled the house so powerfully that the priests could not stand to minister. The praises went up, and God’s presence came down in fire and glory.
- In 2 Chronicles 20:1-4, 15-22, King Jehoshaphat faced overwhelming enemies. Instead of leading with military strategy, he appointed singers to go before the army, praising the Lord for His enduring love. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against their foes, and victory came through praise.
These accounts show a consistent pattern: Praise invites God’s intervention. When praises rise, His glory descends.
Balancing Prayer with Praise and Thanksgiving
Many of us pray fervently, yet the Bible calls us to balance prayer with abundant praise and thanksgiving. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 instructs: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.” (ESV)
These commands—rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in everything—describe a lifestyle of constant, recurring communion with God. They punctuate our days with worship, keeping our spiritual fires burning brightly and guarding against anything that might quench the Spirit.
Hebrews 13:15 urges us to “continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.” (ESV)
Even in hardship, like Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16:25), praising God at midnight led to an earthquake, open doors, and salvation for others.
The Role of Faith and Praise: Learning from Abraham
A key example of praise strengthening faith comes from Abraham in Romans 4:20. When the promise of a son seemed impossible, Abraham did not waver. Instead, his faith grew stronger through giving glory to God.
Here are other translations to highlight the depth of this verse:
- ESV: “No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God.”
- NKJV: “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God.”
- Amplified Bible: “But he did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith, giving glory to God.”
- Living Bible (TLB): “But Abraham never doubted. He believed God, for his faith and trust grew ever stronger, and he praised God for this blessing even before it happened.”
Notice how praise—giving glory to God—actively strengthened Abraham’s faith and kept his expectancy high. When answers seem delayed, start praising and thanking God in advance. Praise combats doubt, maintains faith, and “pulls you through” wavering moments.
Praying Down the Glory
Praise is a pathway to experiencing God’s glory—the anointing, fire, healing power, and manifest presence of the Holy Spirit. In moments like the dedication of the temple (2 Chronicles 5:11-14 and 2 Chronicles 7:1-3), unified praise brought fire from heaven and filled the place with God’s glory.
Psalm 22:3 reminds us: God inhabits (or is enthroned in) the praises of His people. This is a promise—He draws closer in worship, releasing His power when we persist in ministering to Him through song, thanksgiving, and exaltation. Faith to receive comes from trusting God’s Word and acting on it when His glory falls. Building ourselves up in the Word, praying in tongues, and meditating on Scripture help us
Enthroned in Our Praise: A Song of Invitation
This truth inspired the song “Enthroned in Our Praise,” which captures the heart of Psalm 22:3 and invites God’s kingdom to reign through our worship. (Written and arranged by Barron and Kristyn Greenwalt)
Here are the lyrics:
Verse 1
My God, my God, why have You forsaken?
Cries in the night, no answer awaken
Far from my groaning, shadows surround me
A shepherd boy lost, yet calling Your name
Yashua, you’re always the same
Chorus 1
You are Holy! Holy
You are Enthroned in the praises of Your people
We lift our voices, Your glory released
Come and reign
Verse 2
In fields of green, as a young child I wandered
You drew me close, my heart was surrendered
Fathers before me, they trusted and cried out
You heard their pleas, and delivered them
Yashua, you’re always the same
Chorus 2
You are Holy, Holy!
You are Enthroned in the praises of Your people
We lift our voices, Your glory released
Come and reign
––––
In this place
Your Kingdom draw near
Enthroned in our praise
Bridge
This is Your promise, this is Your living word
Always with us, yet closer in praise
We are here, but our spirits ascend
To the place, where Your power descends
Enthroned in our song,
Let Your kingdom come!
You are Holy
Verse 3
Troubles press in, and burdens weigh heavy
We bring them to You, lay them at Your feet
You are consuming fire, faithful and true
Now in our worship, In the throne room with You
You are Holy
As we sing these words, we declare the same biblical reality: God is enthroned in our praise.
