A Heart for the Lost: Praying with Faith and Living with Purpose

By Pastor Barron Greenwalt, En-Joy Ministries

At En-Joy Ministries, and through my involvement in various prayer groups, Bible studies, and conversations with believers and seekers alike, I am continually reminded of the deep burdens carried by those around us. Two requests consistently rise to the forefront of every prayer circle: divine healing and salvation for lost loved ones. Whether it’s a prodigal child, a wayward friend, or a family member yet to know the love of Christ, these heartfelt cries reflect the longing of God’s people for restoration and redemption. As your pastor, I want you to know that when you entrust me with these prayers, I carry them with me. Even now, God brings your loved ones to my mind, and I lift them up, seeking His glory through their salvation and restoration.

The Power of Prayer for the Lost

The Bible assures us that Jesus came “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). This is the heart of our Savior, and it must be the heart of our prayers. When we intercede for those who have strayed or have yet to encounter Christ, we stand on the promises of God’s Word. In Matthew 18:18, Jesus declares, “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” We have authority through Christ to bind the works of the enemy and loose the power of God in the lives of those we love.

As we pray, we ask the Lord of the harvest to “send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:38). We trust that God will place the perfect laborer—someone whose words will pierce the heart and open the eyes of the lost. As 2 Timothy 2:26 reminds us, those ensnared by the enemy can “come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil.” And in Job 22:30, we see God’s promise to deliver even those who are not innocent through the righteousness of those who intercede. These scriptures are not mere words; they are the foundation of our faith as we stand in the gap for others.

Pray with Faith, Praise with Expectation

When we pray for the salvation of a loved one, we must approach God with unwavering faith, believing that He is already at work. After lifting them up in prayer, let us thank God for their salvation as if it has already happened. Rejoice in the victory! Confess that the laborer has been sent, that the enemy’s hold is broken, and that the Holy Spirit is drawing them to Christ. As Hebrews 11:1 reminds us, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Our prayers are not empty wishes, but powerful declarations rooted in the certainty of God’s promises.

Living a Life Worthy of the Gospel

While prayer is our spiritual weapon, our lives are our testimony. People are watching our actions, our words, and our responses to life’s challenges. As believers, we are called to “live a life worthy of the calling [we] have received” (Ephesians 4:1). Our unwavering commitment to Christ, rooted in an intimate relationship with Him, shines as a beacon to those who do not yet know Him. The Joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10), and it is this joy—unchanging despite circumstances, that draws others to ask, “What is the reason for the hope that you have?” (1 Peter 3:15).

Our lives must reflect the truth that we are “heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). When we live in complete union with Him, the Holy Spirit testifies through us, showing the world that we are His. This is not about perfection but about authenticity, a life so rooted in Christ’s love and joy that others cannot help but desire to know Him.

 A Call to Be Ready

As we pray for laborers to reach the lost, we must also be prepared to be those laborers. The Holy Spirit equips us to share the Gospel with boldness and wisdom. As 1 Peter 3:15 instructs, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” Trust that the Spirit will guide your words and give you the right thing to say at the right time. Whether it’s a casual conversation or a divine appointment, your life and testimony may be the very laborer God uses to reach someone’s heart.

Standing in Faith for Your Loved Ones

To those of you who have shared your burdens with me—whether for a prodigal child, a searching friend, or a family member far from God—know that I am still praying. I am believing with you for their salvation, their restoration, and their purpose in Christ. Let us continue to stand together, praising God for the victory, trusting that He is faithful to complete the work He has begun (Philippians 1:6).

May we live each day with the joy of the Lord as our strength, our lives as a testimony, and our prayers as a powerful force for the Kingdom. Let us hold fast to the promise of Psalm 126:5-6: “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.”
