Hope For Tomorrow: Living with Heaven as Our North Star

A Blog Post and Bible Study Guide for En-Joy Ministries

Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the hope of heaven. Thank You for Your Word, which teaches us, encourages us, and fills us with enduring hope (Romans 15:4). As we study Your promises today, open our eyes to the beauty of the resurrected life You have prepared. Ignite in us a longing for Your eternal kingdom and let the joy of the Lord be our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Guide our discussion, align our hearts with Your will, and prepare us for the place You are preparing for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

At En-Joy Ministries, we live by the truth that “The Joy of the Lord is our Strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). Our mission is to cultivate and promote the joy of the Lord among God’s people as a powerful source of spiritual strength. We believe that understanding and obeying scripture brings joy into our lives, teaching us to acknowledge God’s hand in our success. This joy is not just an emotion—it’s a resilient force that sustains believers through life’s challenges, drawn from a deep connection with God. As we say, “No joy, no strength”—joy in God fuels our faith and endurance. In our final Bible study session, titled “Hope for Tomorrow,” we explore how the promise of heaven shapes our daily lives, fills us with contagious joy, and anchors our hope in Christ’s eternal kingdom.

The Foundation of Hope: Scripture’s Enduring Promise
Romans 15:4 declares, “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” This verse sets the stage for our study, reminding us that God’s Word is not merely a historical record but a living source of endurance, encouragement, and hope. Heaven is not a distant dream—it’s a reality that transforms how we live today. The scriptures we study in this session—1 John 1:1-4, 3:1-4; Matthew 25:14-21, 24-30; Revelation 2:10, 26; 3:11, 21; Philippians 3:13-14, 7-11; and Hebrews 11:16—point us to heaven as our “north star,” guiding our actions, ambitions, and affections toward eternal joy in Christ.

Longing for a Resurrected Life
Is resurrected living in a resurrected world with a resurrected Christ and His resurrected people your daily longing and hope? If not, what could help you focus on this daily? The promise of heaven should be more than an abstract thought—it should shape our desires and priorities. 1 John 3:1-4 reminds us of the incredible love of God, calling us His children and promising that “when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (1 John 3:2). This hope purifies us, aligning our hearts with God’s purposes. To cultivate this longing, we must immerse ourselves in God’s Word and invest in relationships that point us toward eternity. As En-Joy Ministries emphasizes, joy in the Lord fuels our strength. By fixing our eyes on heaven, we find the strength to resist the fleeting pleasures of this world and pursue what truly matters.

Walking in Light, Not Darkness
1 John 1:1-4 teaches us about fellowship with Christ, who is the Word of life. Verses 5-7 warn that “if we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth” (1 John 1:6). Walking in darkness means living in unconfessed sin or pursuing worldly desires that conflict with God’s will. In contrast, walking in the light involves honesty, repentance, and fellowship with God and His people. This fellowship brings joy—complete, unshakable joy rooted in Christ (1 John 1:4). At En-Joy Ministries, we believe this joy is our strength, sustaining us as we prepare for the eternal light of heaven, where sin and darkness will be no more.

Prepared for Heaven’s Joy
Christ is not only preparing a place for us (John 14:2-3) but also preparing us for that place. On this earth, we are burdened by sin and its consequences, but heaven promises complete deliverance. In the New Earth, we will be free to become fully functioning humans, created in God’s image, doing whatever we want because our desires will align perfectly with God’s. This hope should shape our activities, ambitions, and relationships. If we believe we’ll spend eternity in a world of unending beauty and adventure, will we be content to waste time on what doesn’t matter? Investing in God’s Word and people yields eternal dividends and brings joy and perspective now. As Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us, the joy of the Lord strengthens us to prioritize eternity over temporary distractions.

The Parable of the Talents: Faithful Stewardship
In Matthew 25:14-21, the Parable of the Talents illustrates the call to faithful stewardship. The master entrusts his servants with talents (resources) and praises the faithful ones, saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21). The faithful servants share in the master’s joy—a vivid picture of heaven, where we enter into God’s inexhaustible happiness. This joy is contagious, not merely a response to being with God but a participation in His delight in Himself, His children, and His creation.

However, Matthew 25:24-30 reveals the failure of the servant who buried his talent. His problem was fear and a lack of trust in the master’s character, leading him to hide his talent rather than invest it. He went wrong by prioritizing self-preservation over faithful service. This parable challenges us to examine our focus on this earth. Are we investing our time, resources, and gifts for God’s kingdom, or are we paralyzed by fear or distracted by worldly pursuits? Heaven-minded living calls us to steward our lives faithfully, trusting that our efforts for God’s glory will bear fruit in eternity.

Promises of Victory and Reward
Revelation 2:10, 26; 3:11, 21 offer powerful promises for those who remain faithful. In Revelation 2:10, God encourages perseverance: “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.” Revelation 2:26 promises authority over the nations to those who overcome, while 3:11 urges us to “hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” Finally, Revelation 3:21 declares, “To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne.” These promises assure us that heaven is a place of victory, reward, and intimate fellowship with Christ. They strengthen our resolve to live for eternity, knowing that our faithfulness will be eternally rewarded.

Pressing Toward the Goal
In Philippians 3:13-14, Paul writes, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Paul’s singular focus was the “heavenward” call, letting go of past failures and worldly gains (Philippians 3:7-11) to pursue knowing Christ and the power of His resurrection. Reflect on your own life: What goal is your life moving toward? If your time is consumed by temporary pursuits, realign your priorities with heaven’s call. At En-Joy Ministries, we believe that joy in Christ fuels this pursuit, giving us the strength to press on toward our eternal prize.

God’s Delight in Heaven-Minded Hearts
Hebrews 11:16 describes the faith of those who longed for a better country—a heavenly one: “Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” God delights in those who fix their eyes on heaven, trusting His promise of a new world. This verse challenges us to live heaven-minded, anticipating the city Christ is preparing. As we do, we find joy in the Lord, which, as Nehemiah 8:10 teaches, becomes our strength to endure and thrive.

Living with Heaven as Our North Star
Heaven is our assurance of eternal gratification and fulfillment. It should be our north star, reminding us where we are and which direction to go. For those feeling uncertain or unready for eternity, the answer lies in trusting Jesus Christ alone for salvation (John 14:6). No good works or earthly achievements can save us—only faith in Christ’s finished work. As we trust Him, we find joy that strengthens us for the journey, both now and forever.

At En-Joy Ministries, we encourage you to let heaven shape your daily life. Don’t let a day go by without anticipating the new world Christ is preparing. Trade time-wasting distractions for investments in God’s Word and His people. Let the joy of the Lord be your strength, fueling your faith and endurance as you live with heaven as your north star.

Closing Benediction
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). May the joy of the Lord be your strength, guiding you to live heaven-minded lives that honor Christ. Go in the assurance of His promises, pressing on toward the heavenly prize, and may His contagious joy sustain you until you enter His eternal happiness. In the name of Jesus, our Savior and King, Amen.
