At En-Joy Ministries, our tagline—“Cultivating Joy, Growing Faith”—is more than a catchy phrase. It’s a promise and a purpose, a roadmap for how we live out our faith together. But what does it really mean to cultivate joy and grow faith? Let’s unpack this idea using the wisdom of Scripture and the beauty of God’s work in our lives, so you can see how it applies to your own spiritual journey.
Cultivating Joy: Tending the Soil of Your Heart
Imagine a gardener preparing a plot of land. They don’t just scatter seeds and walk away—they till the soil, pull weeds, and water faithfully. That’s what it means to cultivate: to intentionally nurture something so it can thrive. At En-Joy Ministries, we’re cultivating joy—not the fleeting happiness that depends on perfect circumstances, but the deep, abiding joy that’s a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
The Bible gives us a vivid picture of this in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-9). Jesus describes a farmer sowing seeds, but only the seeds that land on good soil produce a harvest. The good soil represents a heart prepared to receive God’s Word. We cultivate joy by creating space for God to work—through worship that lifts our spirits, prayer that anchors us, fellowship that reminds us we’re not alone, and acts of service that share God’s love.
Think about someone like “Mary”, a woman I met at a church years ago. Despite health struggles and financial stress, Mary radiated joy. Her secret? She tended her heart daily with gratitude, prayer, and kindness. She’d say, “I choose to plant joy, and God makes it grow.” Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” At En-Joy Ministries, we’re committed to helping you cultivate joy through vibrant worship, supportive community, and opportunities to serve. It’s about preparing your heart so joy can take root and flourish.
Growing Faith: Trusting God for the Harvest
If cultivating is our part, growing is God’s. To grow is to develop, to strengthen, to become more—like a tiny seed sprouting into a mighty tree. In our tagline, growing faith means nurturing a living, active trust in God that deepens over time. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” It grows as we experience God’s faithfulness and step out in obedience.
Jesus’ parable of the mustard seed (Matthew 17:20) captures this beautifully. He said even faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains when planted in God’s care. Think of Abraham, who trusted God’s call to leave his home (Genesis 12). His faith started small, but God grew it into a legacy that changed the world. I’ve seen this in people like James, a skeptic who joined a Bible study. Week by week, as he prayed and connected with others, his trust in God grew stronger than he ever imagined.
Psalm 1:3 compares a person who delights in God’s Word to “a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season.” At En-Joy Ministries, we believe that as we cultivate joy, God causes faith to grow. He takes our small steps of trust and turns them into unshakable confidence.
A Partnership Between You and God
Here’s the beauty of our tagline: cultivating joy and growing faith work hand in hand. We do the work of tending—praying, studying Scripture, loving our neighbors—but God brings the growth. Paul sums it up in 1 Corinthians 3:6-7: “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” Like the Israelites gathering manna daily in the wilderness (Exodus 16), we cultivate an environment for faith to flourish, and God provides the harvest.
At En-Joy Ministries, we’re building a community where joy and faith thrive. Whether it’s through Sunday worship, small groups, or outreach programs, we’re here to help you till the soil of your heart. As you do, God will grow your faith, producing fruit that glorifies Him and blesses others.
