The Hand of God in a World of Hidden Truths: Trump’s Gain-of-Function Ban and the Unseen Forces Shaping Our Future

By Barron Greenwalt, Pastor and Seeker of Truth

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

As I sit to write this, my heart is stirred by the profound ways God moves in the affairs of nations, often unseen, yet always purposeful. The Bible reminds us, “The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will” (Proverbs 21:1). Today, I want to share a story of divine providence, geopolitical intrigue, and a bold step toward righteousness—President Donald Trump’s recent executive order banning U.S. tax dollars from funding Gain-of-Function (GoF) research. This is no small act; I believe it carries weight far beyond what meets the eye. As a pastor and a student of history, I see God’s hand guiding us through this moment, exposing hidden truths and calling us to discernment in a world shrouded in deception.

A Bold Move for the World

On May 5, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order halting federal funding for GoF research—the controversial practice of enhancing viruses to make them more infectious or deadly for study. This decision is a victory for humanity. GoF research, while defended by some as a tool for preparedness, carries risks that could unleash catastrophic pandemics. The 2014–2016 Ebola outbreak and debates over the origins of COVID-19 have shown us the dangers of tampering with nature’s boundaries. By cutting off taxpayer support for such experiments, Trump has taken a stand for life, safety, and accountability.

But why now? What lies beneath this sudden, decisive action? As a pastor, I believe God often works through human events to reveal deeper truths. As a student of geopolitics, I sense there’s more to this story—threads that connect to America’s past actions, global power struggles, and even the war-torn fields of Ukraine. Let’s peel back the layers, not with fear or speculation, but with the clarity of truth and the hope of God’s redemptive plan.

The Ukraine Connection: A Hidden Truth

To understand the significance of Trump’s executive order, we must revisit a pivotal moment in history: the 2014 regime change in Ukraine. Many have forgotten—or perhaps never fully understood—the United States’ role in toppling Ukraine’s elected government. Yet the evidence is undeniable, spoken boldly by those who orchestrated it.

In 2014, Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat, openly celebrated America’s hand in ousting Ukraine’s president, Viktor Yanukovych. In an interview, he declared, “I think it was our role, including sanctions and threats of sanctions, that forced, in part, Yanukovych from office.” He boasted of U.S. senators and State Department officials standing in Kyiv’s Maidan Square, rallying protesters, and of sanctions that paved the way for a “peaceful transition” to a pro-Western regime. Murphy wasn’t coy about the motive: aligning Ukraine with the European Union would unlock “billions of dollars in new economic opportunities” for the U.S.

Billionaire financier George Soros, whose foundations have long shaped global activism, was equally candid. When asked about his role in Ukraine, he admitted, “I set up a foundation in Ukraine before Ukraine became independent of Russia… It played an important part in events now.” That “important part” was funding a “color revolution”—a carefully orchestrated movement to destabilize Yanukovych and install a government friendly to Western interests.

This was no grassroots uprising. It was a calculated operation by the Obama administration, Soros, and their allies to flip Ukraine into the West’s orbit. The consequences were immediate and devastating: Russia, feeling threatened by NATO’s expansion to its doorstep, annexed Crimea, and Ukraine descended into a civil war that continues to this day. The mainstream media calls Russia’s actions “unprovoked,” but let’s be honest: if Russia or China engineered a coup in Canada or Mexico, would America stand idly by? Putin’s response, while aggressive, was a reaction to a U.S.-provoked crisis.

Biolabs and the Gain-of-Function Puzzle

Now, let’s connect this to Trump’s executive order. In recent years, reports have surfaced about U.S.-funded biolabs in Ukraine, part of the Biological Threat Reduction Program. These labs, ostensibly focused on securing Soviet-era pathogens, have raised questions about their true purpose. Declassified documents and Russian allegations—though met with skepticism in the West—suggest some labs may have conducted risky experiments, possibly tied to GoF research. While concrete evidence of GoF in Ukraine remains debated, the presence of these labs in a geopolitically volatile region is no coincidence.

Could Trump’s ban on GoF funding be linked to these labs? I believe it’s plausible. Russia, a key player in ongoing peace talks, has long criticized U.S. biological research near its borders. As Trump seeks to stabilize global relations—potentially brokering peace in Ukraine—Russia may have pressed for assurances that such research ends. This executive order could be a diplomatic olive branch, a signal that America is stepping back from provocative experiments that fuel mistrust.

But this isn’t just about geopolitics. It’s about God’s justice. The Bible warns, “For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest” (Luke 8:17). If these labs were involved in dangerous research, Trump’s action is a step toward accountability, protecting not just Americans but all of God’s creation from the hubris of playing with forces we cannot fully control.

The Hand of God in a Broken World

As a pastor, I see God’s hand in this moment. The 2014 Ukraine crisis was a tragedy born of human ambition—elites manipulating nations for power and profit, leaving Ukraine fractured and its people suffering. Yet God is sovereign. Through Trump’s executive order, I see a divine course correction—a move to halt reckless science, restore trust, and perhaps pave the way for peace. This is not to idolize any leader, for all are flawed, but to recognize when God uses imperfect vessels to fulfill His will.

The Ukraine story teaches us a broader lesson: the world’s conflicts are often rooted in hidden agendas. The same elites who bragged about toppling Ukraine’s government in 2014 now lecture us about “democracy” while deflecting blame onto others. They sow division, fund chaos, and call it freedom. But God sees through the deception. As Psalm 33:10 declares, “The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He frustrates the plans of the peoples.”

A Call to Discernment and Prayer

My friends, we live in a time of great unveiling. Trump’s executive order is more than a policy—it’s a signpost, pointing us to question the narratives we’re fed and seek the truth. Were the biolabs in Ukraine a factor? Are peace talks with Russia driving this change? We may not know the full story yet, but we can trust that God is at work, exposing what needs to be exposed and guiding what needs to be guided.

As your pastor, I urge you to pray—for wisdom to discern truth, for leaders to act justly, and for peace in Ukraine and beyond. Pray for those who suffer from the fallout of decisions made in distant capitals. And pray that God’s light will pierce the darkness of deception, revealing His path forward.

Let us also give thanks. Trump’s ban on GoF funding is a blessing for the world, a safeguard against future calamities, and a reminder that even in a broken world, God’s purposes prevail. As we navigate these turbulent times, let us hold fast to His promise: “Fear not, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10).
