Elon Musk as a Special Government Employee: A Personal Perspective

Many people are discussing Elon Musk and his role as a Special Government Employee (SGE). I can relate to this personally, having served as an SGE myself for the U.S. Department of Labor – OSHA, under the Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs. To take on that role, I completed all eligibility requirements and paperwork, passed background checks, and submitted confidential financial disclosure reports via OGE Form 450. I even took the Oath of Allegiance at NASA Houston – Clear Lake. I can assure you that I took my responsibilities as an SGE as seriously as anyone could, just as I did my Oath of Allegiance.

I’ve always held my natural-born U.S. citizenship in the highest regard, raised from birth to defend it—whether through military service or as a civilian. I firmly believe that Elon Musk takes his special role just as seriously and values his U.S. citizenship with equal reverence. Like me, he isn’t paid for his work as an SGE. I can say from experience that I was a true public servant in that role—unpaid and uncorrupted, unlike so many of our Congress members and bureaucrats who seem to be in it for personal gain.

The evening I took my Oath and was sworn in as an SGE, a friend treated me to a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the Neutral Buoyancy Lab at NASA’s Johnson Space Center—an unforgettable moment. In my view, Elon Musk is more honest and patriotic than any of those congressional figures or bureaucrats. This is evident in the fraud that the new Department of Government Efficiency has exposed—and in the hatred and legal battles Musk faces as a result of his efforts.
