Taste The Goodness of God

The proof is in the pudding
The original phrase is “The proof of the pudding is in the eating!” Which means you have to eat/taste the pudding to know what’s inside of it. God’s Word tells us “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in him!” Taste, ta’am (tah-ahm); Strong’s #2938: To taste, eat, discern, proceed to evaluate. This verb refers to the testing of Good by means of the sense of taste. From the primary sense of physical tasting, ta’am developed into the idea of evaluative sampling of things other than food. Ta’am, as a noun came to refer to discernment, that is, the capacity to choose and delight in good things. The book of Proverbs speaks of a woman who lacks “taste” and a woman with good taste, who perceives that her merchandize is of a high quality. The same metaphor of tasting was used by Peter and calling inquirers to examine the wonders of God. 1st Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness to him nor can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.” Only by being filled by the holy Spirit through our salvation can we understand the deep things and the ways of God, that absolutely means his living Word. You have to be saved, and have the indwelling of the holy Spirit to understand God’s word, it cannot be discerned by our own natural ways. The natural man, without the spirit has no appreciation for the gospel. The spiritual man, the reborn, has a nature that responds to the truth but, non-believers find him difficult to understand. Salvation is a miracle that brings further revelation of Truth through the manifestation of the spirit. We are to know Jesus in spirit and in truth. To walk in faith, we must know the truth of who Jesus is and experience, by the spirit , the reality of that truth. It is vital that our faith be more than just head knowledge, but that our hearts and lives are affected by that truth faith is not static but it’s dynamic.
