You Get What You Pay For

Doesn’t anyone remember the adage and simple rule, “you get what you pay for”? My Dad said it often and I’ll never forget it. It’s appalling the quality of products made in China. Some will argue that great high-tech gadgets are produced in China i.e the IPhone but how about the garbage chargers for the phones and laptops or the Chinese made tools? How about weak Chinese steel? We need to look at the long term and have a perspective that looks at this from a much higher altitude; like a heavenly altitude. We need to realize how we got here. We got here because several administrations, going back decades, took advantage of the import of cheaper goods from China. Cheaper because of lower wage costs and producing low-quality products along with having no conscience in their manufacturing processes and environmental pollution. Previous administrations did this in order to keep inflation in check in the United States. All this to satisfy the American consumer with low priced goods. Everything seemingly is great but, yet, at the same time, you had a huge loss in terms of jobs and production capacity to where it becomes much better to produce within China. I applaud President Trump for finally addressing this, and having the guts to say that there has been an outflow of trillions of dollars to support the Chinese economy at a trade imbalance that has been there for a very long time. It is not always easy to do the right thing, the good thing, especially in the face of criticism. It is certain that you will have critics. President Trump has critics, obviously, but he obediently gets up day after day, put one foot in front of the other and take those necessary steps. In the short term, it likely means higher prices of goods and sacrifices for many of us but that sacrifice was bound to happen. The stock market will likely be thrown for a loop. We all know the stock market mob is fickle. The tariffs introduce uncertainty. I have my retirement account readily accessible on my phone, with just a few clicks, I can easily view my dashboard and see the ups and downs and, yes, many thoughts come to mind when it seems to be spiraling in the toilet bowl. But have patience and support this president. “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart”. Continually walk in faith. Recognize and believe in the certainty of victory for those who “endure to the end”.
